From The Unofficial Murder, She Wrote Casebook:
Episode no. 91: "Mr. Penroy's Vacation"
"The Case: Cabot Cove has a new sheriff. Amos Tupper (Tom Bosley) has retired to Kentucky to live with relatives. His replacement is Mort Metzger, who has abandoned New York City police work to enjoy a more leisurely pace in the country with his wife, Adele. [...]"
"Highlights: [...] As Jessica Fletcher's new comrade-in-arms, city-wise Mort Metzger has mistakenly thought his new post would allow leisure days to play golf and fish. He clearly underestimates the village locals both as to potential culpability in committing murder and in solving homicides. It will take several upcoming episodes for this newcomer to appreciate fully the astute Jessica."
"Trivia: Much is made of Mort Metzger being wed to Adele, a talkative energetic ex-marine. She is often talked about but never seen in the series. [...]"
